@ahh's review of It Takes Two
★★★★½
Phenomenal in almost every way, this sets the standard for modern two player co-op games. Both players control one half of a married couple on the rocks turned into dolls, equipped with a dash and double jump that come as close as possible to controlling like a 3D Mario game. Each new level sees both players gain a unique but complementary skill or tool for the duration of that segment, which work individually in unexpected ways and in combination. The game never stops surprising, and entire mechanics exist for maybe only a single five to ten minute segment in this nearly ten hour game, a sign that the dev team had no trouble thinking up ideas for gameplay. The weak point is the narrative which is predictable, although the two main characters and their guide are all hilarious and thoughtfully acted.
