@ahh's review of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

★★★

A fully average modern first person adventure game, and a disappointing continuation of the general descent in quality for the Metroid Prime sub series. Where the first game left you alone to discover the world around you, MP4 seems uncomfortable with any sort of silence or player autonomy. NPCs talk constantly, weapons and items gated behind story progression and there is an almost linear path through the games story, the final area being almost literally a corridor with scripted events. The final battle is awful, both unclear in what to do and worsened by NPCs who, if downed, cause a game over. The controls, music, graphics and general gameplay are solid but it’s baffling that the series got it right the first game and spent the next two decades screwing it up.
