@deehar's review of 007 First Light
★★★
First Light completely nails the feeling of being 007. However it had this issue where it become a middle ground between immersive-sim and scripted set pieces makes it lost it’s identity. The immersive-sim felt very shallow, especially with the use of Q-watch which I felt very overutilize. Not to mention the AI is very stupid (like very very stupid), and it feel very safe. You can get caught knowing there are multiple ways you can get out of the “tight” situation. I actually liked the first 2 areas of the game, but after that the level design really narrows down, and it abandons that open, puzzle-box approach for a much more linear, scripted experience. It felt very similar to that one Hitman game (iykyk). That is my biggest issue of the game. However, When the game stops trying to be Hitman and leans into being a high-octane Bond film, it really shines. The set pieces is superb, the voice cast is great (esp Lennie James, as Greenway). The gunplay is snappy, that crisp sound when you headshots someone and the narrative felt very fresh for a James Bond story.
