@drkameha's review of Final Fantasy VIII
★★★★
Final fantasy 8 I'd gone into final fantasy 8 not really knowing what to expect. I'd played the introduction several times over and still didn't really know what anything last the 2 hour mark looked like. Final fantasy 8 had everything from fighting my way out of dungeons to daring rescue missions in space. The main protagonist squall starts the game as the usual reserved gentleman we have come to expect of the final fantasy main characters before quickly establishing himself with one more depth than his first impression would suggest. The supporting cast unfortunately to fade into the background a bit, Squall, Quistis, and Rinoa aside, the remaining 3 party members play far more bit parts than I would have expected after the introduction of the characters. Zell, selfie, and the cowboy sniper are often relegated into comic relief and generally only fill the gaps in between story beats. The music is phenomenal. That's it. Nothing else is needed to be said about the music of ff8. The plot is often discussed as being confusing and hard to follow but im not sure if I agree. The story was definitely out there cared to some of the other final fantasy games but i do not feel that it is as confusing as it is made out to be. The elephant in the room is of course the junction system. It's not for everyone. The fact some guides advise you to stop levelling and focus on junctions feels counter intuitive to what I know about rpgs and especially jrpgs. Information is dumped very early into the game about junctions but I feel it was a little overwhelming. Story 8/10 Gameplay 7/10 Music 10/10 Satisfaction 9/10 Characters 6/10 Overall 40/50
