@furtibo's review of Cronos: The New Dawn

★★★★

With Cronos, Bloober team showed that they don't need an established ip(silent hill) to create a good game. Cronos is a great survival horror experience and it's a shame that it has not received more recognition. Pros: - The weapons feel heavy and impactful. I did not expect to like the shot charging mechanic as much as I did, I think this mechanic was genuinely the highlight of the game as it makes it feel very different from other survival horror games. - The story is interesting enough and fits the tone of the world well. - Inventory and resource management is satisfyingly punishing(if you are a game journalist this is probably a negative lol). - The overall horror elements are great. The monsters are grotesque and gory. The environmental sounds and settings are eerie, giving you a sense of paranoia. Cons: - Played on PlayStation 5 pro. The game ran well when playing with the graphics set on performance(experienced a couple of frame drops in areas with high object counts). However, the game is almost unplayable with the graphics set on quality. - I experienced a very annoying bug where my character would get stuck in place for whatever reason. This happened to me about 3 times and one of those times was during a boss fight. - In some tight corridors and environments the camera can get obstructed by objects. - Weapon and tool variety could have been better. The tools that you do have are kind of underwhelming.
