@hellhunter120's review of Marathon
★★★★½
When I picked up Marathon, I didn't expect to put over 200 hours into it. I'd bought it and initially mostly played it once or twice a week with a buddy for an hour or two. After he ended up dropping it, I continued playing it solo, and ultimately mostly did a bunch of crew fill with strangers. Frankly, it's so fucking cool. The world design, sound design, and gunplay are just so good. It definitely has some issues, however. The AI enemy variety is a bit lacking, and it really needs more maps. They're planning a big revamp update in December 2026 that will add dedicated PvP and PvE modes, and assuming they're implemented well, I think that will flesh out the overall experience very well. The vast majority of my time was spent in Season 2: Nightfall, and as of writing this they did away with the seasonal approach in favor of releasing bigger updates when they're ready. I'm currently waiting for the update in December to revisit this. Hopefully the player base is still active enough by then, and hopefully it gets a bump around then as well.
