@mattygamey's review of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve

★★★★★

Please, please, PLEASE, play this game. For a long time, Ace Combat 5 was my favorite Ace Combat game. In fact, it's one of my favorite games of all time (see top 10 games). The way Project Aces managed to interweav story into gameplay was absolute insanity for my tiny 12 year old brain. As for the rest (gameplay, mission design, music), it's always been extremely high quality for all main entries of the series. With all that said, I think Ace Combat 8 might take the cake as my favorite of the series. To start, the story is incredibly engaging from mission to mission. Unlike some other games in the series, the story here is very easy to follow. As you progress, you fall in love with all the characters in a way that reminded me of AC5 quite a bit. Although most of the mission design is very similar in every entry, there were quite a few new twists I did not expect in this game. For example, there's a mission that forces you to intercept an aircraft instead of straight up chasing it and shooting it down. And the music is top tier as always, but I definitely feel like they kicked it up a notch for this one. I know there's a lot of amazing games coming out lately, but if you can, do yourself a favor and play this game. Whether it's buying it, renting it or borrowing it from a friend, I really recommend everyone to give this game a shot.
