@paintedgreen's review of Marvel's Wolverine
★★★
I’ve you’ve played Insomniac’s Spider-man games but understand that this game is built around Wolverine and linear levels instead of open world, you’ll know what you are getting into. Insomniac is not reinventing their style of how to do a superhero game and for me…I don’t mind. These games are like comfort food to me. Pros -Insomniac keeps making their games look better and this is their best one yet -This is some of their best boss fights yet. Every game they keep improving them and they deserve a ton of credit for that -Combat is fun and visceral -Everyone is acting really well -I really liked a lot of the environments Cons -Dialogue can be cringey and Wolverine talks to himself a lot -Combat does get repetitive but I think it started when the 3rd enemy type gets introduced and they are just damage sponges so that could be why it feels this way -The story just didn’t do much for me (I do think it gets stronger at the end). After the first third of the game it feels like you are doing a bunch of side quests related to what you were doing until it evolves into something bigger -Level designs I wish were a little bit more elaborate or felt more desirable to explore -This feels like Wolverine got thrown into Spider-man’s universe in terms of the visual style and tone. I know these games take place in the same world I just wish Wolverine had a little more visual flair to make it feel just a little more unique. I gave it a 6/10 but still had a good time playing a few hours each night. I think Marvel/Wolverine fans have a high chance of getting something out of this game. If you are on the fence maybe skip for now/wait for a sale. I hope this game sells well for a potential sequel. Because the next game can only get better and improve greatly, and there’s already a solid foundation here.
