@rcaldwell585's review of Kirby & the Amazing Mirror

★½

This game deviated from the linear Kirby format and shifted to a metroidvania style Kirby game. I love metroidvanias, and I like Kirby, so what could possibly go wrong? Everything, that’s what. Kirbys copy abilities aren’t permanent (unlike abilities you gain in other metroidvania’s). So you want to use the hammer ability to get through this door? Well, you better be prepared to walk through over a dozen screens without getting hit and losing your ability. If not, get ready to backtrack loser. Also, the map is incredibly obtuse and hard to navigate. The amount of time I aimlessly wandered through this stupid map through the same screens over and over again without having the slightest clue what to do was ridiculous. The addition of the other 3 Kirby’s could MAYBE be neat for multiplayer, but in single player, their AI had the intelligence of a moldy potato making them incredibly difficult to work with when trying to accomplish some of the simplest 2-player puzzles imaginable. The final boss also went on for WAY too long, with 5-6 phases overall. Sure the art style is beautiful and the music is great, but that’s to be expected with Kirby. After coming off from the high of Nightmare in Dreamland, this game didn’t just drop the ball, but it pooped itself while doing it. 3/10 will not revisit
