My expectations were rose-tinted, though I still find myself mostly confirmed in them. One of the first "serious" games that I remember playing and, thus, it necessarily coloured future expectations. More linear and less subtle than I recall, though its atmosphere is still so acutely portrayed and realized, and that is what has evidently stuck with me to now. The seed that games could go beyond the art or arcade dichotomy, or, indeed, could be art, was planted here (regardless of how art or arcade Arkham Asylum really is). That curiosity in exploring games, and, upon reflection, media, and what they could say and be was nascent here. It may seem silly, it's Batman after all, and I admit it is maybe saccharine. Regardless, only on revisit have I come to appreciate and reassess what I had experienced, as well as how it informed my future experiences. Good game.
