An alright but far from perfect remake of the 98 original. The gameplay is incredible, the game looks beautiful, and i think the tone is even throughout. Also the boss fights are incredibly fun. But theres issues that i feel people dont quite touch upon. And considering how the 3 remake gets judged, i feel its really hypocritical. First off, in the OG, Leon and Claire while seperate in their journies STILL kept in contact with one another via radio. You got a sense that while apart, they still were in their journey together and they helped each other. You get NONE of that in this remake beyond a brief scene at the beginning after they reach the station and then, I'm not kidding, they never interact again until the very end. That is unacceptable. Next, Leon and Claire are simply not as interesting as they were in the OG. Leon comes across as pretty dull most of the time while Claire sorta dumb. And I HATE how they pratically removed Leon and Ada's budding romance. Ada was not this manipulative of Leon in the OG. Here, she clearly takes advantage of him and shows no remorse to be honest to the point her heel-face turn feels forced. Also, Leon doesnt feel an honest obligation to help her. He simply distrusts her for the most part and even when he starts giving her the benefit of the doubt, in the end, he flat out tells her despite everything, he didnt trust her. Unacceptable. Mr. X. Hoo boy. I dunno how anyone likes this guy. Hes scary for literally his first appearance, and then becomes annoying. Youre trying to solve puzzles and then you hear him coming and you try and lose him so you can solve the puzzles without wasting ammo and its easier than it sounds. How did anyone find this fun? I can understand why Capcom toned it down with Nemesis (though they overdid it admittedly). Also, this game's soundtrack is not at all strong like the original which is a front runner for the best soundtrack in the series. So, yeah, the gameplay is great, the game is beautiful to look at, but if youre looking for strong written characters or story? Aint gonna find it here.
