As someone who grew up with the original and have quite fond memories of it, this was fun to come back to. I never beat the original and didn’t see most of the game. A lot of the boss battles are fun and the final boss is creative in my opinion. You can feel the spirit of the SpongeBob tv show in the game as well. The catch phrases the characters say are few and get very repetitive very fast. The levels where you have to switch characters to complete a task are difficult due to poor game design and needed to be revamped. I ended up skipping them and getting spatulas from previous areas to continue my progress. Overall, it is a simple and fun platformer that is a remake of an IP I grew up with. There are some parts of the game that have aged poorly and were not fixed in the remake, but I would still recommend people play if they are looking for a few hours of fun. This is a game to play in between your AAA titles as a palate cleanser.
