@zimtiki's review of Assassin's Creed Revelations

★★★★

After losing control of his body and being forced to murder Lucy, Desmond falls into a coma and becomes trapped inside the animus. Here, he meets Subject 16, the mysterious person that was brought into Abstergo before Desmond and left messages written in blood. 16 reveals to Desmond that they’re trapped inside the animus due to it not being able to correctly separate the minds of Desmond, Altaïr, and Ezio. In order to fix this, Desmond must return to Altaïr and Ezio’s memories and complete the story those-who-came-before wanted Desmond to see. We see Ezio’s raid of Masyaf Castle, where the Assassin’s once lived, and you also get to see the end of Altaïr’s life in one of the most beautiful, emotional cutscenes I’ve seen in a video game. This might be the best story in the series so far, and it even made me tear up a little. The gameplay? They fixed that shit. Jumping is perfect know, parkour genuinely works all the time, Ezio gets a hook-blade that lets him make more intense jumps, AND the best part? The story had TWO trailing missions. Thank. Fuck. They even have a tower defense baked in to defend the areas you’ve captured from the Templars. It’s pretty simple, but it’s a fun distraction that works way better than it should. Overall, this is the best game in the series for me so far. It has perfect balance of good combat, fun parkour, great story, and it gives us a glorious farewell to two of gaming’s greatest characters of all time. As Desmond now searches for an ancient temple in North America that holds the key to preventing the apocalypse, all I have to say is… requiescat in pace, Altaïr 🤍
