@zimtiki's review of Astro Bot
★★★★★
We return yet again to the whimsical world of Astro Bot! This time around, the alien bully-bitch has returned and DESTROYS our PS5 home, which is also a spaceship. The alien bully takes our cpu hostage, and scatters the rest of the pieces of our ship AND all of our bot crew mates, over 300 of them, all across multiple galaxies! Using our hover boots, our collectible weapons (frog boxing gloves, slowmo headset, monkey hands, FLUDD rip off with more functions, etc etc), and our wit, we must save the bits and PROPERLY celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary! So yeah, this is basically a redo/sequel of the previous VR game in the series, though this one is NOT in VR. I DO hope they add a VR feature though for the PSVR2, this game would look absolutely incredible in it. Anyways, even without the VR, this team once again shows us how damn creative they are. The levels are quite literally all perfect, I can’t think of a single one that I didn’t enjoy. The movement feels so precise, and the HD rumble on the DualSense controller feels insane, every surface feels different to walk on, getting hit by a water stream fucking FEELS like I’m holding a hose, idk how they do it but it is out of this world. The challenge levels are all amazing too, even the tough ones that had me coming back over and over again retrying to the point of insanity. They’re just FAIR, man. They make you want to get better at the game, it’s such a GOOD difficulty, easy enough for kids but for the collectors, you have to get REALLY quick with those fingers. The challenge levels are even based on the four face buttons on the controller, those being circle, triangle, square, and X. It feels like a genuine celebration for PlayStation, which hits HARD as that was my first console. Not only do they have the button references and the old consoles as ships, they ALSO have TWO HUNDRED BOTS that are based of PlayStation characters! Some of these are as obvious as Crash Bandicoot, and as obscure as Jumping Flash. After each boss level, you also get to play as a famous character with controls similar to the original game, it’s AWESOME. You get to be Spike from Ape Escape, Kratos from God of War, a fuckin BLOB from LocoRoco, Nathan Drake from Uncharted, and Aloy from Horizon. These levels are incredible tributes to these games, even using their original soundtrack as well as a hip-hop remix of it. This game had me smiling the whole time, man. This game, with its silly controller gimmicks, it’s incredible visuals, and the PURE JOY it invokes, it’s an undoubtable MASTERPIECE.
