@zimtiki's review of Five Nights at Freddy's 2
★★★½
Only three months after Five Nights at Freddy’s came out, Scott Cawthon released a sequel proving that good games CAN be made quickly, as long as the correct person is put in charge. In this sequel, or PREQUEL as it’s been proven to be (lotta theories on these games, pretty sure this series put Game Theory on the map) you once again play as a night guard at a different location that has not yet been named. As the phone guy explains, this location has “Toy” animatronics that are meant to mimic their action figure counterparts. They have a unique security system installed that allows them to scan people’s faces and even DETAIN them if their faces match police descriptions of active criminals (likely a way for the franchises owner, Henry Emily, to find and catch his old co-founder William Afton, who is suspected of being responsible for the murders of several children, including Henry’s own daughter.) The game includes new animatronic characters too, such as Balloon Boy, a terrifying human-like child that breaks into your office and steals your batteries, making you vulnerable to Foxy who can only be scared off by your flashlight. The other is Mangle, a broken mess that used to be a Funtime Foxy animatronic before becoming an EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS plaything for children (remember, different universe, different laws). As the animatronics break into your office, you’ll need to wear a Freddy Fazbear mask to prevent them from fucking murdering you. You’ll also need to make sure a lullaby box wound in a separate room. If the lullaby box stops, a terrifying animatronic known only as The Puppet will escape its confinement and kill you instantly, unable to be stopped by any weapon. Good luck beating night 6 in this game, dude. It’s brutal, I could NOT do it without cheats. You get zero breaks from the horror of these characters. While I enjoy the first game more, this game is still extremely impressive.
