Hot Wheels Unleashed is a fast-paced, drift-heavy arcade racer that has you racing as the popular Hot Wheels brand toy cars. So is this an average run-of-the-mill cash grab, or a TRUE racing experience? First of all, the attention getter of this game has to be the graphics. Every single one of the 100 plus cars you can use are so detailed, they sometimes look photo-realistic. You can see their mold lines, scratches, sticker-ware, and even finger prints on them. The tracks look phenomenal too, using the classic orange/blue buildable pieces for race tracks look so real, you might have to double-take. But no game can survive on graphics alone. Luckily, this game has nothing to be ashamed of in its racing mechanics, in fact, it should be proud. The driving feels so good and responsive, requiring you to only tap your brakes to get it going. The cars truly FEEL small and light-weight, sometimes causing you to go flying if you miscalculate a turn, jump, or loop. The main mode has you competing in races and time challenges listed across a classic Hot Wheels city carpet that had me bursting with nostalgia. This mode is not only difficult in the best way, but has some of the most intense “boss” levels I’ve ever seen in a racing game. Honestly, this game is a miracle. It’s clear how much sweat went into this game and the devs deserve a MASSIVE raise. My only gripe with this game is I wish there were more modes and races in the City Rumble mode. At least, that’s what I WOULD’VE said before the DLC expanded it! Such a good game man, you cannot miss it.
