@zimtiki's review of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
★★½
Hey there Zelda fans! Do you LOVE Breath of the Wild? Do you want to see MORE of what happened 100 years ago!? Well what if we showed that to you, but changed the story, ended it in a weird and different way, and added some of the cringiest dialogue you’ve ever heard that does not belong in a Zelda game? That’s this game. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a prequel to BOTW, taking place in a DIFFERENT TIMELINE where a tiny Guardian travels back in time to warn Zelda of the calamity before it happens. The art style and sound design are straight out of BOTW, and it looks amazing. The gameplay? Press x and y over and over again until an enemy dies. The mindless combat was fun for a little while, and experimenting with different characters abilities was cool and liberating for a Zelda game. Problem is, the game takes over TWENTY hours to beat. It’s WAY too long, and the repetition starts to wear on you a quarter way through the game. It’s rough. And every single time Purah, Robbie, or Impa opened their mouth, I wanted to kill myself. Some things are better left read, not spoken. Shut the FUCK up. Anyways, this game has a lot of love for Zelda in it. If you’re a diehard Zelda fan, MAYBE you’ll enjoy this one.
