@zimtiki's review of Kirby Super Star

★★★½

Kirby Super Star is the next entry in this classic franchise, and was the famous pink puffballs first appearance on the Super Nintendo. Oddly, they chose an “8 Games in One” approach for this unusual sequel. So the game ACTUALLY consists of smaller games all packed into one cartridge. A few of the games are just experimental fun, like racing King Dedede and eating as much food as you can, rapid tapping A to increase your strength to cut wood, etc. These are simple, but they’re decently fun, just not for very long. But then you have the three main modes: Dyna Blade, Meta Knight, and Milky Way Wishes. These modes are structured very similarly to the previous games in the series, and yet they still manage to revive the formula for a new console, though these modes are still short. This entire game is probably beatable in about 3 hours. The movement and combat are back to normal and we GOT KIRBY’S SPRINT BACK! Your ability powers have been upgraded as well, allowing you to spit out an enemy and have them be your ally until they’re defeated, meaning you could have a sword and your buddy could have bombs, tag team baby! This game is pretty average to be fair, but the one mode that BLEW my mind was Meta Knight. You have to race through Meta Knight’s ship, the Halberd, taking out all of his generals until you get to the masked swordsman himself, where he hands you a sword and you fight him in one of the COOLEST scenes I’ve ever seen in a SNES game. This shit was absolutely epic. Aside from that though, this game is essentially just a fun, cozy way to spend an afternoon.
