@zimtiki's review of Metroid Prime Hunters

★★★

So you’d think that after the renewed interest of the Metroid series, Nintendo would introduce new fans to the original sidescrolling style of the series, right? Nope! They went and made another FPS Metroid game in the much less powerful DS, and KIND OF managed to pull it off. First of all, this game looks surprisingly good, I have NO idea how they got this game to run so smoothly on a DS. It really captures the feeling that Metroid Prime gave off. While I have to give this game props for its achievements, I can’t ignore its BIGGEST issue: the controls. To walk, you use the D-Pad. To shoot, you use the L button. To aim…? You have to take out the stylus and use it on the bottom touch screen, that’s right, you have to play this entire game holding the DS with only your left hand. For real, if I end up getting arthritis, I will solely blame it on this game. To make matters worse, this game took 12 hours to beat, and I had to repeat several sections due to some BS checkpoints and super difficult bosses (FUCK the Slench, dude. My hand hurts just thinking about it.) The thing is though, this game has some really cool characters and story elements, and fills in the gap between Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. This game ALSO marks the first appearance of Sylux, a mysterious bounty hunter who is currently set to become the main villain of Metroid Prime 4. If you love Metroid, play this game. Just buy a hand massager or something, man.
