@zimtiki's review of Sonic the Hedgehog 2

★★★★

Sonic is BACK on the Sega Genesis, his home console! In this sequel, we see Sonic first meet his newest, and his MAIN companion, Miles “Tails” Prower, a Fox with two tails that cat spin them in circles and fucking FLY. This time around, Sonic and his new pal Tails must stop Dr. Robotnik from acquiring the chaos emeralds once again, as he plans on using them to re-power his Death Egg station once again. He once again uses helpless animals as weapons, and even deploys a new and improved Metal-Sonic! This game genuinely feels like a bunch of devs got together, replayed the first game, and went “okay, this time, let’s make all the levels as good as Green Hill Zone was,” and they PRETTY MUCH nailed it. There are still minor annoyances of course, like obnoxious platforming sections that are difficult to skip, but for the most part, the levels are more fun to explore, and allow you to get much more creative with your movement, Sonic can even grab on to tails and fly to higher ground! The bosses are also way better in this game, focusing more on skill and timing, though they are much easier here. The final boss is super tough until you get his entire move set down, after that it’s a piece of cake. Idk though, this was a really good platformer that had me smiling to the end. It’s aged a little bit, but it’s still a good ass game. Recommend, pls play.
