@zimtiki's review of Super Mario Galaxy

★★★★

Super Mario Galaxy is the next entry in the 3D Mario game lineup, and is considered to be one of the most revered video games of all time. As usual, Mario and the gang are kickin it when Bowser shows up and kidnaps Princess Peach once again. After meeting a strange, mystical woman named Rosalina who has a strong connection with Star-like beings called Lumas, she informs Mario that they must repair her ship and travel to the center of the Galaxy to defeat Bowser and save the Princess. This is a game that’s easy to pick up but difficult to master. Abandoning the crazy FLUDD mechanics from Sunshine, this game is all about playing as Mario and traversing tiny little planets that each have their own gravitational pull, making for some CRAZY but super interesting platforming sections. This is the games main gimmick, and they definitely utilize it and play it out. I don’t think it ever truly feels old, but it does make traveling in some sections feel a little random and frustrating at times. Playing as Mario feels great though, and is just as fun and usual. Here are a few gripes though: the Wii remote has a reticle on it that is used to shoot stars, meaning you ALWAYS have an annoying ass crosshair in your screen that won’t go away even when you point the remote off screen. Maybe it’s my ADHD, but this shit pissed me off so hard, it’s SO distracting. The camera can also get really screwed up when jumping from planet to planet which cost me my life on several occasions. Overall though, this is still a great, unique, and in Mario experience that should be enjoyed by everyone. I’m so sorry though, Dunkey. I simply can’t refer to this one as a masterpiece.
