@zimtiki's review of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
★★★★★
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword brings us wayyyy back in time, to the first Link and Zelda that ever lived. After growing up on an island in the sky known as Skyloft, things take a terrible turn when Zelda flies below the clouds onto the world below, and Link follows, discovering the truth behind the holy war between the Goddess Hylia and the demon king, Demise. The story, per Zelda norm, is amazing. The characters and situations presented are so interesting and creative, and Groose may be my favorite “bully” archetype character of all time, in ANY media. I love him. The gameplay is solid, different, and engaging. One of this game’s main gimmicks is swinging your sword in precise directions. On the Wii, while it wasn’t game breaking, it was very difficult to hit fast enemies. However, on the Switch, you’re able to use the right stick to hit enemies in the precise direction you want, making tough fights much easier. It also makes you feel much more involved since you can instantly react to enemies rather than have to make up for the lag motion controls naturally have. The side missions are a blast, flying on your locating feels magical, and the puzzles are some of the best and most inspired in the series. So if you’re feeling like a good time is in order, throw this bad boy in, fly around, KILL Ghirahim, and save the land that will one day be known as Hyrule. Boys and girls, this is a masterpiece.
