@zimtiki's review of Worms: Open Warfare
★★★
Worms: Open Warfare was the first game in its series to come to a handheld console. Thankfully, the series translates perfectly into the medium, having to sacrifice little to emulate the gameplay of its predecessors. I just with this game had more content. Like the other games in its series, Open Warfare is a 2D strategy game where you take control of a team of worms and take turns with your enemy, trying to wipe out their team with your weapons and wit. The gameplay here is no different than the previous games in the series, and the hand-drawn art style looks fantastic on the PSP. You can link up and battle friends, random AI, or play the “Challenges” mode, which is essentially just this game’s campaign mode. This game is certainly fun, but sadly, it’s LACKING on content. This game has the least amount of weapons and gadgets I’ve seen in a worms title. It feels like something is missing. Also, the “challenge” mode is nothing more than 20 short challenges against a team of AI. There’s no story, and not even fanfare after beating all 20 missions, it made me feel a little empty inside getting no reward for my accomplishments. The AI is annoying too, as it can go from being frighteningly accurate to hilariously bad. Overall, while still having the always-fun formula of a worms game, Open Warfare feels like a demo of what could be rather than a full release.
